A joint venture to produce lighting systems based on GaN LEDs is formed by Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies (Rusnano) /17%/, Onexim Group Ltd. /50%/, and Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant /33%/. To strengthen the JV, Onexim has also acquired for an unknown sum of money 82% of OptoGaN Oy (Helsinki, Finland), a startup founded in 2004 by Russian physicists Vladislav Bugrov, Maxim Odnoblyudov and Alexey Kovsh. In 2007 OptoGaN raised €5M from venture capital investors. OptoGan is developing GaN LEDs and has a research lab at the Helsinki University of Technology and a pilot line and production facilities in Dortmund, Germany.

SAMSUNG erected its first LCD and plasma TV plant at Russia. The plant is located in the Kaluga region and is estimated to produce 1,7M units in 2009 and up to 1,8M in 2011. The total investments to this plant are not less than $137 million.
